Cantor Giora Sharon
Cantor Giora Sharon
was born in Hungary. As a fourth generation Cantor, Sharon
began his studies with his father. In 1964 he immigrated to
Israel, served in the Israeli Defense Forces, and sang at the
Israel National Opera as well as with other companies for over
thirteen years. Simultaneously he continued his Hazzanic
studies in the Selah Seminary as a student of Hazzan Shlomo
Rawitz, and studied with Cantors Benyamin Unger and Yirmiyahu
Ben Dor.
In 1976 he was elected
cantor of the Natanya Progressive Synagogue and in 1984, was
invited to serve as Cantor of Temple Isaiah in Palm Springs,
CA where he then served for thirteen
years.
In 1998, Sharon took a
position as Cantor in Cleveland, OH at Park Synagogue and in
1999 joined the staff of Congregation Beth-El
Zedeck.
Cantor Sharon and his
wife Clara, who is a teacher in the Beth-El Zedeck Early
Childhood Center, have two children, Anat and
Yuval.
